ActionSA Names Zandile Dabula as Johannesburg Human Settlements MMC Candidate

ActionSA mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba has announced Zandile Dabula as the party’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) candidate for Human Settlements in the City of Johannesburg.

The announcement places Dabula at the centre of ActionSA’s plans for addressing housing and human settlements challenges in Johannesburg, a portfolio that remains under pressure due to issues such as informal settlements, housing shortages, illegal occupation and service delivery concerns.

Dabula is widely known as the former leader of Operation Dudula, a movement that gained public attention for raising concerns around illegal immigration and its impact on local communities. Her involvement in the movement sparked both support and criticism, making her a notable public figure in debates around law enforcement and community safety.
Mashaba’s decision to nominate Dabula signals ActionSA’s continued emphasis on law and order, immigration control and housing management as part of its political agenda in Johannesburg.

The Human Settlements portfolio plays a key role in overseeing housing development, hostel revitalisation and the management of municipal housing programmes. Dabula’s appointment as MMC candidate is expected to attract significant public and political attention given her background and activism.

ActionSA has yet to outline in detail the policy direction Dabula would pursue should she assume the role, but the announcement is likely to fuel debate over housing policy and urban governance in South Africa’s economic hub.
