“Government, industry leaders, and technology inspire future innovators.” The Gauteng Department of e-Government successfully hosted a 2-day Youth Tech Expo G13 Hack, held at Mogale City, Centenary Hall, on Friday, 04, and Saturday, 05 June 2026.

The expo was designed to empower West Rand youth with digital skills and exposure to advanced technologies for innovation and entrepreneurship. Participants were encouraged to think beyond traditional career paths and embrace technology as a tool for creative solutions, businesses, and employment opportunities.

Building the Entrepreneurs of the Future

The event provided a platform for young people to showcase their talent, explore emerging technologies, and develop skills needed in the modern digital economy. Organizers emphasized the importance of nurturing a generation of creators and innovators who can contribute to economic growth in local communities and across the country. By exposing participants to new technological environments and ideas, the exposé encouraged youth to think differently, adapt to changing times, and pursue careers in science, technology, and innovation.

Government Invests in Youth Innovation

Speaking at the event, Gauteng e-government MEC Mr. Bongi Nkosi Dlamini highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting young innovators:

“We believe that the youth of Gauteng possess the creativity, talent, and technological capability to develop solutions that can transform communities and improve government service delivery. Through the Youth Expo G13 Hackathon series, we are creating a platform for young people to engage with the digital future of our province.

Finding Solutions to Local Challenges

A key focus of the expo was to address challenges facing Gauteng’s G13 municipalities; participants were encouraged to develop innovative ideas and technology-driven solutions that could assist government departments in improving service delivery and community development. The initiative also strengthens partnerships between government and young people, promoting collaboration and active participation in shaping the future of local communities.

Hands-on Learning Sparks Creativity

The program concluded with practice activities and an innovation challenge, where participants were tasked with designing electrical models, exploring computer and mobile technology concepts, and developing creative solutions to real-world problems.
