Cocaine worth R20 million seized, man arrested in Midrand

Police seized R20 Million worth of cocaine and arrested a 56-year-old man during a raid in Blue Hills, Midrand, in what authorities describe as a major breakthrough against organised drug trafficking.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the bust followed an intelligence-driven operation after officers received information about drugs being stored on the property. When police swooped in, they discovered several sealed packages of cocaine concealed on the premises.
A 56-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the plot, was arrested on the scene. He is expected to appear before the Midrand Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the operation was the result of coordinated efforts between Crime Intelligence and the Johannesburg K9 Unit. “This seizure demonstrates our commitment to dismantling criminal networks and removing dangerous substances from our communities,” she said.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the drugs and whether the suspect is linked to a larger trafficking syndicate.
