Two people have died and another is injured in an apparent shooting at Zakariya Park Community Hall on Monday morning.

The incident occurred in full view of school pupils and officials during a back-to-school campaign where a group of heavily armed gunmen stormed the building and began opening fire before fleeing the scene.

Rand Water officials were in the area to hand out school uniforms.

During the incident, the ANC Chief Whip in the City of Joburg and Ward 122’s Cllr. Sithembiso Zungu was also shot and injured.

Councilor Zungu was then rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, his condition is stable.

Rand Water has confirmed that one of their executives was shot dead during the incident but declined to disclose any personal information.
