The future was the focus at Thembile Primary School on Friday, 11 September 2026, as Grade 7 learners took part in an exciting and inspiring Career Day, designed to open their minds to the many opportunities that lie ahead.

The school hall was buzzing with excitement as learners interacted with professionals, educational stakeholders, and representatives from different fields. Smiles, curiosity, and enthusiasm filled the room as learners explored various careers and gained valuable information about the world of work.

A Day of Discovery and Inspiration

The career day began with an exhibition where learners were introduced to different fields of study and career opportunities. They were encouraged to ask questions and engage with the guests about the qualifications, skills, and dedication required to succeed in different professions.

The initiative aimed to provide learners with a safe and supportive platform to start thinking about their future. They were encouraged to work hard to achieve good marks and prepare themselves for university, colleges, and other higher learning institutions. For the grade 7 learners, the campaign came at an important stage in their education as they prepare to go after high school.

“Your background doesn’t define your future.”

Mrs. Siphokazi Hove delivered an important message to learners reminding them that their circumstances should never prevent them from pursuing their dreams:

“Education is still the key to success. It’s not about your background; it’s about you making sure that you achieve your goals for the long term.”

Her words encouraged learners to believe in themselves and understand that determination, education, and hard work can help them reach their goals.

Learners were encouraged to read, study, and dare to dream bigger. Stakeholders committed to supporting education shared their experiences and encouraged learners to take their education seriously. Learners were reminded that reading, developing skills, and understanding their strengths are important steps towards choosing the right careers.

Grade 7 learner Lusaka Norman said, “This career day exposed us to various fields of study and encouraged us to study hard, read, and know which field we want to pursue. Today, we were exposed to different fields of study, and we are inspired to continue studying and choose the right careers.”

Building tomorrow’s leaders today

Thembile Primary School’s Career Day demonstrated the importance of exposing young people to career opportunities from an early age. The initiative helps Grade 7 learners understand their options before they enter high school. The initiative has sparked ambitions, confidence, and purpose.

From Dreams to Action

The program concluded successfully, allowing learners to present their chosen careers based on their research. They shared information about what their chosen careers involve, the qualifications required, possible places of employment, earning potential, and how those careers could contribute to their communities.

The presentations showed that learners are already beginning to think beyond the classrooms and image themselves as future professionals and community leaders.
