Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mnqithi has waxed lyrical about an emerging top young prospect in the Brazilian ranks, Kutlwano Letlhaku. The school of excellence graduate joined Sundowns’ DDC team in July 2023 before working his way
up to making his first team debut in March this year, in a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United [now Durban City] in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 encounter.
The highly rated attacking midfielder has continued to impress the coaches, particularly Mnqithi. who has confirmed the youngster is set for more first-team football this season after coming on as a second half substitute against Stellenbosch FC for his first appearance of the season.
“I can guarantee you that he’s going to be one of our big revelations for this season,” the Downs mentor said. “He has done exceptionally well from pre-season and has scored some terrific goals.” “Very instrumental in our attacking play, strong and very incisive on 1 on 1, but he’s got an eye for goal, and he’s also a very good passer of the ball,” he added.
The former Golden Arrows coach went on to express his immense confidence in the 18-year-old. attacker, suggesting that the player can reach greater heights in his career, including securing a move overseas, if managed well.
“I think the boy is a very big talent. If there’s someone I think has got a realistic chance of going Overseas, it’s that boy [Letlhaku]. I rate him very highly,” stated Mnqithi.
“Technically very smooth, very broad shoulders; he’s never scared of anything; he’s ready to take on any challenge. I see a very bright future ahead of him, but he must keep his feet on the ground and stay humble.”
He continued: “We must also help him with that, because I believe if we can do that, there’s a very big chance that he will be a big success at Sundowns,” he reiterated.
Sundowns will be looking to overturn a one-goal deficit against Stellenbosch in the second leg of their MTN8 semifinal tie at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday (15h00) following a 1-0 loss to the Cape Winelands outfit on Wednesday.
