Morena confident Bafana will bounce back against Rwanda

Bafana Bafana midfielder Thapelo Morena says the team has quickly shifted focus to their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Rwanda, emphasizing the importance of staying composed and converting their chances on home soil.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s crucial encounter, Morena reflected on the lessons learned from Friday’s draw against Zimbabwe, admitting that the team’s eagerness to score affected their decision-making in front of goal.
“What happened on Friday happened and now we fully focus on the Tuesday game, because it’s one of the games that’s important for us, that we going to definitely have to deliver and do our level best to make sure we grind the results.”
The Mamelodi Sundowns speedster acknowledged that the pressure to find an early goal against Zimbabwe led to rushed play in key moments.
“We went on the Friday game focusing on getting the goal, trying our level best to score but we rushed our decisions, everything was in a rush. So I feel like that’s also the foot that we put in the game.” he admitted.
Heading into the Rwanda clash, Morena believes the team will show greater composure and make better use of their attacking opportunities, especially with home support behind them.
“In this game, we’re definitely going to go out guns blazing, but not too edgy to get the goal. Eventually we will get goals. It is one thing that we do especially when we play home and we have the advantage on because we know our people are also going to come out and support. We believe in everyone in the team, putting the hard work and also making sure we do very well on the final passes and on the final third. It’s going to be a much better game”
Bafana Bafana will look to secure maximum points against Rwanda as they conclude their push to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Their qualification hopes hinge not only on securing victory against Rwanda but also on favourable results elsewhere in the group. A strong win could prove decisive, particularly if the outcome between Nigeria and Benin is in favour of Nigeria. Goal difference may ultimately determine who finishes at the summit, adding further weight to South Africa’s need for a convincing performance in their final qualifier.
