R147 200 Prize Purse set to ignite competition at Boxer Super Run Joburg 2025

Celebrating its Joburg debut on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Marks Park Sports Club, the Boxer Super Run – South Africa’s most social 5km run – is set to make an impact with an impressive R147 200 prize purse. The winners of the Elite Men’s and Elite Women’s Races will each claim a remarkable R20 000.
“We’re proud to announce that the Boxer Super Run Joburg will offer a prize purse of R147 200 in 2025,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “Our goal is to elevate the profile of short-distance road running by recognising and rewarding the country’s top performers. Prize money will be awarded across both the Elite and Open Wave categories – with the top eight men and women in the Elite Race earning payouts, and each winner taking home R20 000. In the Open Wave, the top three men and women in age categories from Junior through to 70+ will also be rewarded for their achievements.”
“The 5km distance remains a crowd favourite – it’s fast-paced yet demands a great deal of endurance and race strategy,” adds Meyer. “This combination of speed and tactics creates a thrilling contest for elite athletes. With a substantial prize purse on offer, we’re expecting world-class performances and an unforgettable display for spectators.”
Sharing Meyer’s excitement, Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Department: Marketing at Boxer Superstores underlines Boxer Superstores’ ongoing support for South African athletes.
“By offering an impressive prize purse of R147 200, we’re proud to recognize the dedication and determination of South Africa’s elite athletes,” says Pillay. “We hope this added incentive inspires runners to give their all on race day. It’s our way of honouring their passion and commitment while creating a memorable experience for every participant. Open and Social Wave runners we encourage you to stick around after your run, support the elites, and witness world-class racing in Johannesburg.”
