A refurbished community dental clinic in Zola, Soweto, officially opened its doors to the public on Friday, September 15th.

The highly anticipated launch reinforces Zola Wits dental clinic’s position as one of the leading dental facilities and signifies a groundbreaking milestone for Zola as it positions itself as a pioneer in dental care, offering patients an unparalleled experience in an innovative environment.

The old clinic was closed in September 2019 due to the safety concerns it posed to patients and staff, as it was built with materials containing asbestos.

The new brick-and-mortar structure, with expanded services, will enable the community of Soweto to have access to dental health care once again.

In her keynote address, MEC for health and wellness, Nomantu Nkomo Ralehoko, pleaded with the community of Soweto to protect the Zola Wits Dental Clinic as it belongs to them and should ensure that no one destroys it. “Please don’t channel your anger into the clinic because you’re the ones that are going to suffer.”

The facility includes a primary care clinic catering to both emergency and unregistered patients, a mobile intra-oral x-ray machine, a panorex x-ray machine, as well as general dentistry. With a strong commitment to inclusivity, Zola Wits has ensured full, limited mobility access throughout the facility, including disabled parking bays.

Dr. Nelisa Mgilane, a highly respected figure in dental care, leads the team at Zola Wits’s new facility as the head of department. With a wealth of experience gained from renowned practices countrywide, Dr. Mgilane is passionately committed to ensuring that each patient receives the highest quality of treatment upon entering the Zola Wits clinic.
