South Africa’s most thrilling netball tournament is back, and registration is now open. Schools across the country are invited to join in the action-packed journey that leads to the national finals on July 12–13, 2024.
The DStv Schools Netball Challenge (DSNC) aims to unearth the future stars of South African netball who’ll ultimately become part of the national teams. It serves as a vital talent-scouting platform for universities and the Baby Proteas. The initiative is made possible through a collaborative partnership with South African Schools Netball, the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, the Department of Basic Education, and other key stakeholders, together aimed at nurturing and elevating netball talent across South Africa.
Netball being the most popular women’s and girls’ sport in the nation, this event provides young female players with an opportunity to attract the attention of talent scouts and possibly lead to greater honours and eventually South African representation. Rendani Ramovha, CEO of SuperSport, states, “As an organisation, we are ‘Here for Her,’ which means giving opportunities for young women to participate and immerse themselves in the sports they love.”
More than 26,500 girls from more than 2,650 high schools enrolled in all nine provinces of South Africa participated in the competition last year. In the Botho finals, Affies Meisieskool emerged victorious, and in the Ubuntu stream, Hlabi Secondary won their second championship. The victors received an incredible experience at the 2023 Netball World Cup final in Cape Town as part of their reward.

South African Schools Netball President Di Woolley emphasises the importance of having partners like MultiChoice in initiatives like these.
“Without opportunities, we will never discover the amazing talent in our country when it comes to sport. Without funding, we will not have many opportunities. With a partner like MultiChoice, both are attainable and measurable, and that is why we value their continued support,” she said.
