The launch served as an educational platform, providing community members with an opportunity to learn about the lives, struggles, and achievements of local heroes. It also celebrated their contributions and recognised the impact they have had on future generations.
As the author of the book titled Randfontein Hall of Fame, Mr Trueman Seshoka expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project:
“I’m grateful for the success of this book launch and for the support I received from various stakeholders and community members. Most importantly, I thank the families of the heroes who generously shared their time, memories, and stories, allowing me to document and preserve their loved ones’ legacies. This book launch would forever remain close to my heart.”
The campaign also acknowledged community activists and their families for the sacrifices they made in supporting and nurturing local talents. Organisers emphasise that these stories would continue to inspire future generations to follow in the footsteps of those who paved the way.
Speaking on behalf of Rand West City Libraries, Miss Thandeka Legae. Highlighted the importance of preserving and celebrating local history:
“The community of Randfontein can learn about the rich history of Randfontein and its people. The community can also celebrate the achievements of local individuals and gain inspiration from their stories. They can also use it as a reflection of their personal life stories and what legacy they are leaving behind for future generations. Communities would contribute to the culture of reading and learning and contribute to the development of our township.”
Various speakers addressed the attendees and emphasised the positive impact the publication would have on young people and anyone interested in learning more about local heroes and their contributions to society.
The launch concluded with a special recognition ceremony during which the featured heroes were presented with certificates of appreciation and copies of the book in recognition of their individual journeys and contributions to the community.
