Cancer Awareness Campaigns: Walk with Purpose
Thabo Motlhabi
Arebueng Community Support Organisation successfully hosts its 4th Annual Cancer Awareness campaign – “Walk with Purpose” – on Saturday October 25, 2025. The event brought together people from all walks of life – both affected and infected by cancer, their families, community members, and solidarity stakeholders – in a shared spirit of solidarity and hope.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness, educate, and inform communities about the different types of cancers and the importance of early detection, and also where to seek professional help. It also sought to encourage families to support their loved ones undergoing treatment and to remind societies that together, they can conquer cancer.

Stakeholders and partners who played a key role in the success of the event Included:
* Thuso Phala Foundation
* SANTACO
* Colossus Athletic Club Mpela-Mpela
* Security Services
* RWLM-Mayor’s office
* Mohlakeng SAPS
* Department of Health
* Cancer Survivors and Advocates
The event served not only as a moment of reflection but also as a celebration of courage, resilience, and community unity. The participants walked side by side, spreading the message that cancer awareness does not end with this walk – it continues at home, in schools, in workplaces, and across social platforms.
Mrs Nosipho Mabena, co-founder of Arebueng Community Support, expressed heartfelt appreciation and shared the purpose behind the initiative.

“Through this Cancer Walk with Purpose, we encourage both young and old to visit their local clinics regularly and learn about self-examinations, especially for breast cancer. We also urged families to continue supporting those battling with cancer and to honour those we have lost. That’s why our slogan is titled “Walk with Purpose” to remind everyone that every step counts in this journey.
This vibrant initiative once again highlighted the importance of education on early detection and community support in the fight against cancer. The Arebueng Community Support Organisation remains committed to spreading awareness throughout the year, providing that together we can walk with purpose and beat cancer.
