Brotherhood Men’s Forum Hosts Awareness Campaign in Soweto

Brotherhood Men’s Forum, based in Soweto, recently hosted a men’s awareness campaign. The event took place at Emdlaleni School in Mzimphohle, Soweto, on Saturday, 15 August 2026.
The campaign brought together men and boys to discuss important issues affecting men in modern society, particularly focusing on spirituality, beliefs, well-being, families, and finances.
One of the main objectives of the awareness campaign was to educate men of all ages about spirituality and beliefs while encouraging them to respect the beliefs of others. In a democratic and culturally diverse society such as that of South Africa, people come from different cultural backgrounds and follow different practices and belief systems. The initiative, therefore, sought to encourage men and boys to understand, embrace, and take pride in their own beliefs while respecting those of others.
Chairperson of Brotherhood Men’s Forum Office Bearers, Mr. Simphiwe Tshabalala, encouraged men and boys to participate actively in the forum’s initiatives:
“I would like to encourage all men to attend the Brotherhood Men’s Forum initiatives, because we want men to know that at Brotherhood, we have created safe spaces where men are allowed to release, educate, and learn.”
The campaign provided a safe and supportive environment for a meaningful conversation, allowing men to openly discuss their challenges, support one another, and build confidence, trust, and teamwork. The forum also aims to establish support groups that can help restore men’s dignity and strengthen their relationships within families and communities.
Dr. Zukisani Mxoli, popularly known as Dr. Zee, was a special guest speaker on the day.
Spirituality must strengthen us; without it, we are empty and vulnerable to words. If they say negative words to you, you will eventually overreact, but our spirituality should build us to be stronger.”
The campaign concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which men and boys had an opportunity to engage with Dr. Zee and raise personal and community concerns. Dr. Zee also provided attendees with information on how they could contact him for assistance and advice.
