Pikitup ramps up efforts to stabilise waste collection across Joburg

Pikitup has assured residents that it is continuing to implement measures to improve waste collection services in parts of the city affected by operational delays.

The City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity says waste collection schedules in certain areas, particularly high-density regions such as Randburg and Roodepoort, are currently experiencing intermittent disruptions due to financial and resource constraints impacting operations.

The entity said the distance between these areas and the Robinson Deep Landfill Site and Goudkoppies Landfill Site landfill sites in the south of Johannesburg continues to place additional pressure on turnaround times for waste collection vehicles.

Despite these challenges, Pikitup says its operational teams remain on the ground working to minimise disruptions, optimise fleet operations and improve the reliability of waste collection services in affected communities.

Pikitup Managing Director Bukelwa Njingolo said the entity remains committed to restoring service stability across the city.

“We understand the frustration and inconvenience caused by delays in waste collection, and we want to assure residents that our teams are working tirelessly to improve service delivery under difficult operational conditions.

“We appeal to residents for patience and cooperation as we continue implementing interventions aimed at improving efficiencies and restoring collection schedules,” said Njingolo.
