Phuti Mohafe Aims to Rotate Squad in Nedbank Cup Clash Against The Bees

Phuti Mohafe is set to rotate his squad as he looks to maintain his unbeaten run in Polokwane City’s Nedbank Cup opener against third-division side The Bees FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Having climbed to third place on the Betway Premiership table and extended their unbeaten streak to six matches, Polokwane City is looking to capitalise on their current form as they face The Bees. Although the Bees have proven to be a solid side, Mohafe is eager to give his players a chance to prove themselves in this competition.

“We just need to rotate the team and give the other guys the chance, and we’ll see what transpires after this, and I think we will be tampened because those who are coming in will also want to show the coaches that they deserve to play week in and week out,” he said.

Despite his plans to rotate, Mohafe is well aware that matches in the Nedbank Cup are never easy and is expecting a tough encounter against the ABC Motsepe side.

“It’s gonna be a tough match. It’s a lot of running, a lot of physicality in it playing with an ABC Motsepe Team. They will be coming at us, and they will be pressing us, so we just need to be smart enough and play intelligently in the match.”

“The ABC Motsepe teams, especially from Mpumalanga, they close the doors. I once coached there; I know how they strategise. What they care about is not conceding, so we are the same team, and I think we’ve bridged the toughest defence in our division, so going to them, I won’t divulge the plans for us to go at them, but I think we will find the way to get through their strong defence.” he added.

On the other hand, the Bees will enter this clash with their morale dampened, following a tough 2-1 defeat to Middleburg United FC in the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League.
