Johannesburg — Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed that leaders of the G20 have formally adopted the summit’s declaration, following two days of high-level discussions in Johannesburg.
The City of Johannesburg says “The banner was illegally erected by Solidarity or its agents”.
The dispute between the City of Johannesburg and the trade union Solidarity centers on the removal of a controversial banner. Solidarity instituted urgent legal proceedings before the Gauteng Division of the High Court to have the banner reinstated or returned. The banner, which read, “Welcome to the most race-regulated country in the world,” was erected along the M1 motorway in Johannesburg.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile has insisted that the government is not turning a blind eye to South Africa’s gender-based violence (GBV) crisis.
Opening the Social Summit in Boksburg on Tuesday, Mashatile said the forum, much like the National Dialogue, aims to create inclusive, community-driven discussions on the country’s most pressing issues.
