Hlaku Foundation Set to Unite Soweto Youth Through Football Tournament

The Hlaku Foundation is set to once again make a positive impact in Soweto as it prepares to host a youth football tournament aimed at promoting unity, talent development and community engagement.

Founded in 2018, the Hlaku Foundation has become known for its dedication to uplifting communities through various social initiatives. The organisation has led several impactful programmes, including motivational visits to schools, sanitary pad donation campaigns and feeding schemes supporting homeless people across Soweto.

In celebration of Youth Day, the Hlaku Foundation has partnered with the Clifford & Gusheshe Foundation to stage an eight-team football tournament on 16 June 2026.

The event is expected to attract football enthusiasts and community members from different parts of Soweto while creating opportunities for young players to showcase their talent.

A number of teams have already booked their places in the tournament. These include Pimville Rocks and Cameroon from Pimville, Orlando West Development International from Orlando West, M Academy from Meadowlands and Devine Stars.

The remaining spots will be decided during the Diepkloof qualifying matches scheduled for 13 June 2026. Teams competing in the qualifiers include DK Rocks, FC Barcelona, Future Falcons and Chilli Boys, all hoping to secure a place in the main event.

Hlaku Foundation founder Bongani Dlamini believes the tournament represents more than just football.

He says the initiative is designed to bring communities together, encourage discipline among young people and provide a positive environment where sport can inspire social change.

The organisers have encouraged residents to support the tournament and celebrate Youth Day through sport and community spirit.
