Mosimane Names 30-Man Bafana Squad for AFCON Qualifiers

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed his final 30-man squad for South Africa’s upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea, as well as an international friendly against Egypt.

Mosimane initially named a preliminary 35-player squad before reducing it to 30 players for the three international fixtures scheduled for the coming weeks.

South Africa will begin their AFCON qualifying campaign against Guinea at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

Bafana Bafana will then face Eritrea at Cairo’s Al-Salam Stadium on 30 September 2026 before concluding their international commitments with a friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October.

Explaining his selection process, Mosimane said the squad was chosen based on several factors. “We select based on form, experience, availability and the impact of injuries,” he said.

Bafana Bafana will report for camp on Sunday, 20 September, ahead of their opening qualifier. The 2027 AFCON tournament, known as Pamoja 2027, will take place from 19 June to 17 July 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Meanwhile, SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan welcomed the upcoming continental tournament, which will be jointly hosted by three East African nations.

Tickets for the Guinea clash are already on sale, with adults paying R100 and children under 12 charged R40.

Children’s tickets cannot be purchased separately. Supporters must select at least one adult ticket when purchasing tickets for children.
