Pikitup Warns Job Seekers Against Fake Online Recruitment Advertisements
Residents seeking employment have been urged to exercise caution after Pikitup, the City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity, warned of a fraudulent job advertisement circulating on social media and messaging platforms.
The fake advertisement falsely claims that Pikitup is recruiting general workers and appears to target vulnerable job seekers by requesting payments and personal information in exchange for supposed employment opportunities.
Pikitup has distanced itself from the misleading advert, stating that the online address and contact details provided are not linked to the entity. The organisation has called on members of the public not to engage with or respond to the scam.
Pikitup Managing Director, Bukelwa Njingolo, condemned the fraudulent activity, saying it takes advantage of people genuinely searching for work.
“These deceitful acts not only exploit vulnerable individuals but also undermine public trust and have the potential to disrupt Pikitup’s operations,” she said.
The entity emphasised that it does not charge any fees during job application or recruitment processes. Officials warned that any request for payment in exchange for employment should be treated as suspicious.
Pikitup encouraged residents to verify all employment opportunities through its official communication platforms or directly with the Human Resources Department before applying.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over online recruitment scams, where fraudsters prey on unemployed individuals by promising jobs that do not exist.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal information or sending money to unverified recruiters.
