Operation Dudula staged a protest outside UBC Jabulani offices in Soweto, blocking illegal foreign spaza shop owners from registration.
This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the government’s response to foodborne illness.
In his address, the President said that “All spaza shops and other food handling facilities must be registered within municipalities that operate within 21 days from last week Friday. Any shop that is not registered within 21 days and does not meet all health standards will be closed.”
Operation Dudula leader says, “We are agitated and very disappointed by the leaders who were supposed to lead this country properly.”
The leader further adds that President Cyril Ramaphosa didn’t take decisive action on his inclusion of foreign shop owners; these shops must be reserved, run, and operated by South Africans.
As Operation Dudula, we oppose what the president said: no foreigner will come to UBC to register their business; the 500 million that was reserved by the presidency must finance South Africans who can run businesses.
Operation Dudula says, “President, GNU, ANC, reverse the decision you’ve taken. We want to own our own economy; the South African government must put South Africans first.”
Operation Dudula will match the Union Building and deliver our grievances, that the decision by the President is wrong.
