Six suspects were arrested for the murder of Luke Fleurs

Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a well-known soccer player, Luke Fleurs.

The 24-year-old Kaizer Chiefs defender was gunned down in a hijacking at a petrol station in Honeydew earlier this month.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni appointed a team of detectives from the provincial office to investigate and search for the suspects involved in the crime.

“The team that was appointed by the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has made a breakthrough by arresting six suspects and recovering the victim’s car.”

Masondo added that the six suspects were traced and arrested in Slovoville, Soweto, in the early hours of Wednesday, April 10, 2024, while the vehicle that was already stripped was recovered on Monday, April 8, 2024.

“Police believe that the suspects are part of a syndicate that is responsible for car hijacking in Gauteng, and the search for more suspects is continuing,” concluded Masondo.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 12, 2024.
