A video of a Tshwane Metro Police is circulating social media, where the cop was seen transporting a motorist to withdraw money to solicit bribes.
On the video, the Metro Police can be heard saying, “When you get to the ATM, I want you to take out money; don’t even take long.”
The Tshwane Metro Police Department released a statement affirming that it is in fact a member of the TMPD who is implicated in the alleged bribe controversy. The TMPD has instituted an internal investigation; the member will be served with a notice of intention to suspend and must give reasons why he must not be suspended within 48 hours. A statement from the complaint and the member is required as part of the investigation process.
The department urges victims to come forward and report these corrupt activities to the TMPD Independent Police Investigative Directorate or the South African Police Service to eliminate the bad apples from the department.
