Gauteng Traffic Wardens assaulted in Reiger Park by alleged gang members

A video of the Gauteng Traffic Wardens in Reiger Park in the East Rand City of Ekurhuleni were assaulted by alleged gang members. The incident occurred over the last weekend.

In the statement issued by Gauteng Traffic Police, it states that during the Wardens routine patrols, they observed two alleged rival gang members who were engaged in a fight and decided to intervene to de-escalate the situation.

The alleged rival gang members turned on the Wardens and attacked the three Wardens. The law enforcement responded, leading to the arrest of the two suspects involved; further investigations are underway, and law enforcement officers will be conducting operations.

Gauteng Premier Panyanza Lesufi has warned against residents attacking Gauteng Traffic Wardens. Panyaza adds, “There can never be a no-go area for law enforcers while carrying out their responsibilities in our province.

Mr. Lesufi said, “Gauteng Traffic Wardens assist Gauteng Police in responding to crimes committed risking their lives on a daily basis to protect communities from criminal elements.”

Gauteng Traffic Wardens are supervised by the South African Police Service (SAPS), Gauteng Traffic, and Metro Police Departments.

On the video, there were no SAPS, Gauteng Traffic or Metro Police visible.
