AKA to be remembered with public memorial service in Sandton

Seven days after his untimely demise, Kierman Forbes better known by his stage name AKA, will be interred to his final resting place in a private provincial funeral. And among an avalanche of tributes to AKA’s work is the announcement of the memorial service slated for Friday, 17 February at the Sandton Convention center. It is our wish to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted thorough his gift of music. His memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online, his family says in a media statement.

The south-African hip-hop artist, a towering figure in the world of music for more than 20 years, was gunned down along with his long-time friend Tebello & Tibz Motsoane on Friday night outside a
restaurant in the coastal city of Durban.

Hours before his death the 35- year-old posted on social media about his upcoming music album, Mass country, which is set for release later this month.

The Family further indicated that Bongani Mahosana will not attend the memorial and funeral & due to observing cultural respect. Bongani, also known as Murdah Bongz, is married to DJ Zinhle who is the
mother to AKA’s daughter.

Meanwhile, Tibz memorial service will be held at Sacred Heart College in Observatory on Thursday, 16 February. Details of his funeral have not been announced yet.

No arrests have been made and there have been very few updates since this killings nearly one week ago. Police have not disclosed a motive or revealed if they have identified a suspect.
