Baroka FC Releases Six Players After Failed Promotion Attempt

Baroka FC has confirmed the release of six players ahead of the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship season, this comes after their failed attempt at promotion to the DSTV Premiership.


Bakgaga had an up-and-down season in the South African second tier after a five-game winless run. At the beginning of the campaign, Dan Malesela, who replaced Stanford, Nkoane is in the dugout.


Malesela quickly turned the fortunes of the Limpopo-based outfit, propelling them to third place. finish in the league and a place in the PSL promotional playoffs. However, the 58-year-old mentor oversaw one game in charge in the mini-league before he was suspended by the club.


Morgan Mamilla was then called in to steer the ship and needed three unanswered goals to secure promotion in the final day but suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini stadium on Wednesday.
The released players are Tshidiso Patjie, Putco Khoza, Lehlogonolo Nonyane, Sandile Nyundu, Boalefa Pule and Phelelani Shozi.


“Baroka Football Club confirms that the contracts of the following players will not be renewed upon their expiry date at the end of the 2023–24 season,” the club statement read. Baroka will participate in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for a third consecutive season. following their relegation from the top-flight league at the end of the 2021/22 season.


The future of Mamilla also remains uncertain, having managed three games in the mini-league playoffs, drawing two matches and losing one, which proved to be decisive in the club’s hopes for promotion.
