Lofentse’s new sports mecca unveiled and dedicated to familiar name.

Pitso Mosimane’s legacy will live on at Lofentse High School in Orlando East, Soweto, for years to come.

The Al Wahda Football Coach was honored on Tuesday for his time and contribution to South African football by having the new multi-purpose sports courts named after him.

The official handover was conducted on behalf of the Nedbank Cup 2022–2023 season winners, Orlando Pirates FC, and the Sports Trust.

Since 2012, the Nedbank Sport Affinity, in partnership with The Sports Trust, has built ten superb multipurpose sport courts, giving school learners and communities in under-resourced areas the opportunity to play soccer and other sports.

Speaking under a bright sky with a touch of a warm breeze, Nedbank Group managing executive Khensani Nobanda confirmed that the facility cost R2 million to build with a 20-year warranty.

“In the last few years, the winner of the Nedbank Cup has been given the opportunity to choose a school where we can build a multipurpose ground, and this year obviously the winner was Orlando Pirates, and they’ve chosen a school in their heartland as the beneficiary”.

“We are incredibly proud to name the facility after him”.

Mosimane, who received a standing ovation when he went to the podium, thanked everyone in attendance and said each one of them has made an impact in his life.

“Soweto as a township has given us a lot of opportunities to showcase our talent. I’m happy this is happening in Orlando East because I have a lot of history here, added Mosimane.

Mosimane added that he was humbled by Nedbank for naming the multi-purpose sports courts after him.

In attendance were Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture Zizi Kodwa, Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane, Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation MEC Morakane Mosupyoe, and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
