The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that Betway, South Africa’s leading online sports and gaming brand, will be the new title sponsor for the premier division.
This was confirmed by PSL Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza during a media briefing at the PSL Headquarters in Parktown on Wednesday morning.
This new sponsorship deal follows the early withdrawal of DStv from its sponsorship agreement, which was initially set to last five years from September 2020. DSTV’s premature exit, after succeeding ABSA’s 13-year sponsorship, was reportedly due to a significant revenue loss caused by a sharp decline in subscriptions and the departure of MultiChoice Group CEO Imtiaz Patel, as reported by TimesLive and Sowetan.
Betway has committed to a three-year contract valued at R900 million.
Betway CEO Laurence Michel emphasised the company’s dedication to football, stating, “This partnership is the single biggest investment in SA sport and SA football in particular. It underscores Betway’s commitment to the future of SA sports, especially SA football. Football is an integral part of our identity as a brand, and we take immense pride in supporting the league that captures the essence of football and culture in this country and beyond. Our partnership with the PSL will honour the heritage and history of SA football.”
The new league season is set to kick off on August 3rd, with full fixtures.
expected to be released later today.
Dr. Khoza confirmed, “No amount of days will be shifted. We are starting exactly on the third and will issue the fixtures this afternoon as promised to everybody.”
