Joburg Mayor Dada Morero controversial speech went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter). He delivered a speech at the ANC REC Lekgotla, which ended yesterday. Dada said, “The city has no option but to consider employing properly documented foreign nationals as JMPD officers.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi went on X to respond to the viral video of Mayor Morero. Panyaza said, “We don’t agree with the proposal. We held a discussion with our regional chairperson and executive mayor, who advised us that the ANC Johnnesburg Lekgotla rejected his proposal and fully accepts the decision not to entertain this proposal further.
Panyanza adds that we remain committed to ensuring that our law enforcement agencies are appropriately trained to tackle challenges created by crime. Our sincerest apologies for the confusion and pain caused by this proposal.
The Economic Freedom Fighters released a statement stating that “Dada Morero’s statement is not only misinformed but also demonstrates a lack of political and governance insight, particularly coming from an Executive Mayor.
The EFF cites that “there’s no scientific evidence to support the claim that the JMPD and SAPS are failing to address crime in areas with high numbers of foreign nationals due to language barriers, and there’s no evidence that recruiting documented foreign nationals will resolve this purported issue.”.
